BLC Resource Grades 7-12
This course offers a small group setting for special education students to practice effective and appropriate social skills and study strategies. Attention is also given to the individual student's needs expressed in their IEP. Students are provided support in homework completion in the form of study strategies, organization, and planning. Appropriate classroom behavior is a priority. Schoolview is reviewed weekly with the student and a plan is developed to get missing assignments handed in.
Grading Policy
Students are graded on participation, verbal and written, as well as appropriate social interactions with peers and adults during the class period. Grades are determined by a percentage of appropriate behaviors and weekly assignments completed. All grades are pass / fail. Students in grades 9-12 receive elective credit for this class.
Classroom Expectations:
1. Be respectful of people and property.
This means . . .
a. Follow directions.
b. Actively listen when someone else is talking.
c. Use the proper volume and tone of voice.
d. Keep your hands to yourself.
e. Use appropriate language.
2. Be respectful of yourself.
This means . . .
a. Put forth your best effort. We expect nothing less . . and neither should you.
b. Work through problems, it builds character. We will help if you ask.
c. Learn through practicing, practice for success.
3. Be Responsible.
This means . . .
a. Come to class on time and ready to learn.
b. Be prepared for class by bringing all of the materials you need.
c. If you make a mistake, admit it and correct it. This is how we learn.
d. Take responsibility for all actions.
Classroom Discipline:
Precision Request Model in the classroom. When given a behavioral/academic directive, the student will be given 5-7 seconds to follow the directive. When/if he/she does not follow a directive he/she will be given the directive once more. When/if the student does not comply within 5-7 seconds he/she will participate in social skills instruction and/or follow-up with BLC staff with regard to appropriate behavior.
